Glashütte Original makes watches in the Saxon tradition, tracing its lineage to the 1994 privatization of the former East German conglomerate GUB. The approach is deeply vertically integrated: in-house movements, three-quarter plates, hand-engraved balance cocks, and Glashütte stripe finishing. Since the Swatch Group acquisition in 2000, the brand has had significant industrial backing while keeping production in Glashütte. The result is a quality-to-price ratio widely praised by collectors, though brand recognition still lags behind comparable Swiss names.

Every timepiece is designed, machined and assembled by one man. Dials are engraved with patterns inspired by the Kalevala (the Finnish national epic), ancient labyrinths and Nordic myths. Zack and Zoltan Tipton turn old vinyl records into eyeglass frames in their Budapest workshop. The idea was born in the flea markets of the Hungarian capital, among communist-era records nobody wanted anymore. The material is perfect - vinyl is lightweight, durable, unique in its patterns (every record carries the grooves of its music), and above all it's recycled. Every frame is handcrafted, with techniques constantly refined since 2004. Wear the music, literally.
