Opticraft (Masunaga)
120 years as Japan's optical pioneer: the birthplace of Japanese eyewear excellence.
Philosophy
Japan's oldest eyewear manufacturer since 1905. Fully integrated production in Sabae. Premium acetate and titanium.
History
Founded in 1905 by Gozaemon Masunaga, Masunaga Optical pioneered the optical industry in Japan, launching the first eyewear production in Fukui. Gozaemon brought skilled craftsmen from Osaka and Tokyo with the ambition of solidly establishing the optical frames industry in the region. Today, Fukui produces 97% of Japanese optical frames and constitutes one of the three largest production regions worldwide alongside China and Italy. Masunaga maintains a meticulous manufacturing process with countless steps, never rushing the process. This traditional artisanal approach perpetuates 120 years of excellence in integrated production of premium acetate and titanium frames.
