History
In 1890, Joseph Opinel created his first folding knife in his father's workshop in Albiez-le-Vieux. In 1901-1903, he built his first factory in Pont de Gévoudaz and designed a machine for mass production of wooden handles. From 1916, the factory permanently settled in Chambéry. In 1985, the N°8 entered the permanent collection of London's Victoria & Albert Museum. Today, over 130 years later, the Opinel family perpetuates Savoyard craftsmanship.
